The Key to a Warm and Welcoming Home

The Key to a Warm and Welcoming Home

Recently, my husband and I rented a house for a vacation. It was a beautiful home, newly remodeled, clean and had lovely furnishings.

Exploring it, however, there was something bothering me. I couldn’t quite put my finger on it – it just seemed sterile in some way. Everything about it was very coordinated and stylish, it should have given off a more comfortable vibe, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

As I looked around, it hit me – there was no artwork on the walls! The walls were painted a lovely, pale grey which would have been a perfect backdrop for artwork, but there wasn’t any.

The walls were just blank. Lots and lots of blank space which didn’t give my eyes – or brain - anything to connect with. Sure, the furniture in the room was gorgeous, but it wasn’t enough to pull the room together.

Bare walls leave a room unfinished, and when something is unfinished, it gives off an unsettled feeling. If a room is causing its inhabitants to feel unsettled, it certainly won’t make them feel comfortable and relaxed – and isn’t that how you want your family and guests to feel?

So, look around your home. Do you have blank walls that could use some artwork? You have a personality – you are not a blank wall! The artwork that you choose to hang reflects who you are, what you enjoy looking at and how you see the world.

By hanging unique art, you will have the opportunity not only to share what you appreciate with others, but to surround yourself with images that bring you joy.

In case you are worried, you don’t have to be a millionaire to collect art! There are countless artists in the world looking for patrons just like you. You can support artists by purchasing their original art, but for a more affordable option, look for artists who sell fine art prints based on their higher priced original art.

In the blog posts to come, I will be sharing more specific information on art collecting: where to find artists, types of art, art styles – just to name a few topics. In the meantime, be on the lookout for artwork that connects with you, pieces that will enhance your home and bring a bit of you to your walls. To get you started, have a look at some of my digital art prints.
