The stacking of rocks, cairns, is a traditional way of marking a trail for hikers who venture out into the wilderness. They are a reassuring sight when one is on a trail far from civilization. When I compare them to the rocks arranged by nature, I must wonder if we, humans, are on the right path. We attempt to arrange nature to our will, yet we are in a precarious state of balance. Should we heed the signs left by fellow humans, or those left by nature?
